چکیده

Unlike hinged flaps (for example, ailerons, elevators, and rudders), camber morphing devices vary distribution in a smooth continuous way, resulting aerodynamic efficiency improvements due to the absence of sharp changes airfoil camber. One such concept, Fish Bone Active Camber (FishBAC) device, has shown significant benefits when compared flap. In this work, quasi-two-dimensional wind-tunnel test was performed investigate performance FishBAC device compare it trailing-edge plain A combination quasi-steady force balance wake rake pressure measurements used determine coefficients. These are complemented by flow visualization study using particle image velocimetry, allowing for comparison near-field wakes terms size vortical structure. Additionally, displacement were on track deformed shapes under loads. Results show that achieves greater than 50% improvement lift-to-drag ratio moderate high lift coefficients where is significantly deflected an at least 16% higher all coefficients, even deflections low.

Aerodynamic Shape Optimization of an Adaptive Morphing Trailing Edge Wing

Adaptive morphing trailing edge wings have the potential to reduce the fuel burn of transport aircraft. In this paper, we quantify the aerodynamic performance benefits of a morphing trailing using aerodynamic design optimization. The aerodynamic model solves the Reynolds-averaged Navier– Stokes equations with a Spalart–Allmaras turbulence model. A gradient-based optimization algorithm is used i...

An investigation of unsteady 3D effects on trailing edge flaps

The present study investigates the impact of unsteady and viscous three-dimensional aerodynamic effects on a wind turbine blade with trailing edge flap by means of CFD. Harmonic oscillations are simulated on the DTU 10 MW rotor with a flap of 10% chord extent ranging from 70% to 80% blade radius. The deflection frequency is varied in the range between 1p and 6p. To quantify 3D effects, rotor si...

A Comparison of Smart Rotor Control Approaches Using Trailing Edge Flaps and Individual Pitch Control

Modern wind turbines have been steadily increasing in size, and have now become very large, with recent models boasting rotor diameters greater than 120 m. Reducing the loads experienced by the wind turbine rotor blades is one means of lowering the cost of energy of wind turbines. Wind turbines are subjected to significant and rapid fluctuating loads, which arise from a variety of sources inclu...

Morphing Trailing Edge Flap for High Lift Wing

This paper presents the study conducted to design and analyze a morphing trailing edge flap structure for a large aircraft wing. The rear part of the trailing edge flap was modified to be integrated with a set of internal actuation mechanisms distributed along the span of the flap. Additional changes to the conventional flap structure were implemented, such as an open sliding trailing edge and ...
